Choctaw Heritage Festival

The vibrant traditions of theChoctawNationwillcome alive in Calera from October 31 through November 2 as the town hosts its annual Choctaw Heritage Festival. The three-day event promises a rich blend of culture, music, food and storytelling that honors the history and contributions of the Choctaw people.

Festival-goers can expect a full schedule of events, including traditional dances, live music performances, craft demonstrations and local artisans showcasing handmade goods. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample authentic Choctaw cuisine and enjoy interactive exhibits highlighting the Nation’s history and contemporary achievements. Festival organizer, Lisa Redcorn, said the festival is about fun and celebrating.

“This festival is about celebrating the heart of our community,” said Redcorn. “It’s a chance for everyone, families, students, and visitors, to learn about Choctaw heritage while enjoying music, food, and fun activities.”

In addition to cultural displays, the festival will host educationalsessionsonChoctaw history, language and traditions. Storytellers will share legends passed down through generations and local schools are participating with student performances and projects inspired by Choctaw heritage.

The festival takes place at the Choctaw Cultural Center and surrounding grounds, with free admission for all. Parking and shuttle services will be available to accommodate attendees.

Organizers are encouraging early arrival to fully experience the wide range of activities planned over the three days. Residents and visitors alike are invited to join in this celebration of Choctaw culture, honoring the past while embracing the community’s vibrant future.
