At approximately 10:40 a.m. on August 28, less than an hour after The Madill Record went to press with its weekly issue, a male and female duo decided they wanted to make headlines.

The Madill Police Department was dispatched to an apartment complex in the 100 block of South Eighth Avenue for a burglary call. Once Major Dale Faulkner arrived on scene, the reporting party approached him with information about the incident.

According to the police report, the witness stated she entered the apartment and made contact with Charles Autrey and Jacqueline Casas as they entered the apartment through the front window. The witness exited the apartment and called 911.

The witness told Faulkner that she knew the suspects and also knew they did not belong in the apartment. As the suspects were running from the apartment, another witness observed the two suspects jump in a white Nissan four door sedan and speed off.

While Madill police processed the scene, the occupants of the apartment arrived. Faulkner asked the victims if anything was missing, to which the resident gave an affirmative reply. The suspects took a Smith and Wesson 9 mm pistol, some diamond chains, a water jug containing $492 in savings, a Coach bag, Fossil watch and six boxes of Jordan shoes.

A genuine Coach purse on the street will go for approximately $300, and the Jordans around $100 for a basic pair. That does not include the street value for gold, diamonds and a pistol.

Meanwhile, the suspects. Autrey and Casas, were breaking the law in another city. Little did officers know that the suspects would turn up 30 minutes west of Madill almost three hours after the original incident.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., the Ardmore Police Department received a call about two vehicles — a red Chevy Tahoe and a red pickup — firing shots at each other. Officer Eric Hamblin said he was dispatched to South Commerce. When he arrived on scene, it was utter chaos and multiple officers were attempting to find out the story.

“As I exited my unit, a female, later identified as Jacqueline Casas was standing in the business parking lot on Third Avenue with a black female and both were yelling and pointing at a black male subject stating he shot at her (Casas),” Hamblin said in his report.

The officer detained the shooter until he could access the situation. The shooter happened to be the victim of the burglary, Mike Wilson. The officer had another officer detain Casas because she observed Casas reaching into the Chevy truck for something. While Hamblin had the suspect from the red truck detained, he began to piece together what occurred.

“[Wilson] advised their apartment was burglarized this morning and they had seen video footage of the suspects burglarizing their apartment,” Hamblin noted in his report.

Willis also stated that after Madill officers released them from the scene at their apartment, he and his roommate wanted to take Summer Brown, the witness to the burglary, to dinner for all her help. According to the police report, the suspects ditched the white vehicle used in the burglary and were in a red Tahoe and passed by the victims.

Seeing the suspects made the roommates jump into action.

“Mike said they followed them for over thirty minutes while calling the police and trying to get help stopping them,” Hamblin noted.

Unfortunately, the calls kept losing connection, and the suspects realized they were being tailed. A chase involving two red vehicles began near Lake Murray.

Wilson told the officers that he thought the suspects were going to shoot at him, so he “fired two shots in the air to scare them and get them to stop.”

The chase ended when the Tahoe crashed near Arby’s in Ardmore. The roommate and co-victim, Rafel Wash, told Ardmore Officer Lacie Collier before the chase they followed the Tahoe for a bit, and observed the suspects pull up to a small white sedan that fit the description of the car used during the burglary.

Once the smoke cleared, and the suspects were arrested, Collier contacted Oklahoma Highway Patrol to send a Park Ranger to look for the white car by the lake. The car was located, and the Madill Police Department was notified since there was a possibility it contained stolen property.
