Here we are in mid-June already. Saturday, June 20 marks the first day of Summer with Father’s Day following on Sunday. Try to do something for dad that will add a smile to his day.

The Open Arms Clothes Closet located at the Texoma Southern Baptist Church will be open on Saturday, June 20 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome.

On Sunday, July 5, the church will be hosting their Red, White & Blue Cookout to be held right after the Sunday service. The proceeds help benefit the youth and their trip for summer camp. Be sure to stop by and enjoy some fine vittles.

I have more information on the local July 4 activities here in Buncombe Creek. Starting Friday, July 3, the 18 th Annual Twin Ponds Golf Cart Regatta will begin lineup at the Texoma Southern Baptist Church parking lot at 6:30 p.m., where the judging will begin for the three most Patriotic and unique decorated golf carts.

The parade will leave at 7:00 p.m. There will be a $50.00 cash award given out to the winners of the event.

The next day, Saturday, July 4, the 15 th Annual Mickey Brown Memorial Fishing Derby will take off at 7:00 p.m. with registration starting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This will be held at Twin Ponds. Ages one through fourteen are encouraged to register. There will be toys, prizes and free hot dogs and drinks.

The 12 th Annual Twin Peaks Water Works Turtle Races will follow the Fishing Derby. Bring your own box turtles. No Water Turtles please.

The Fire Works show held at Lakewood Manor will start on July 4 at dusk after the turtle races. It will be a whole day of fun activities. Be sure to come out and participate.

The Buncombe Creek Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting their first annual Rummage/ Bake Sale to be held on Saturday, July 4 at the Shay Community Center.

The proceeds help to support the community. “Every Day is a new Beginning. Take a deep breath, smile and start again.” Have a safe week.
