A town meeting was held at 8 a.m. on August 30. Representative Josh Cantrell was in attendance along with many members of our community to witness Congressman Josh Brecheen give an insightful presentation over the country’s debt crisis. He was informative and did his best to answer residents’ questions throughout the discussion.
The national debt is at $35 trillion and growing with every second. Brecheen’s presentation showed how the amount of debt for the country has grown since 1980 and continues to grow. He predicted the amount that will lead into the country’s future over the next 30 years to 2050. The graphs are astounding, exemplifying past, present, and future deficits.
In 2024, the national debt is at - $1.9 trillion, in 2050 it is projected that the rate of debt the country will be at - $7.3 trillion. The road the country is going down is unsustainable to say the least. Wouldn’t it be lovely to be back in 1980 where the country had $1 trillion dollars in debt to be concerned with? Now, Americans can only wish for that amount of debt to be before them again.
Brecheen compared the country’s debt issue to how fast a speeder can rack up miles.
'Comparing numbers to miles, as an example, we are accumulating debt faster than the speed of light,” Brecheen said. “Amputations are necessary, we are past the point of just saving money. It’s going to be pain that makes the changes we need to see.”
Medicare is highest on the list, unfortunately, for future possible “amputations”.
No pain, no gain. The debt is already hurting the country, and all its citizens. In more ways than one, every person in America is directly affected by this debt and all the people of this country need to focus on how to fix theseissues.Thegovernment is spending too much.
During the meeting, citizens asked Brecheen how to prepare for a more potentially painful future, how to become less affected by this fastcoming problem? Brecheen said it all starts at home.
“Focus on your own debt and get it paid off,” Brecheen said. “That will provide you with more flexibility when future hard times come.”
Americans need to buckle up for this ride, looks like quite a few bumps are in the road ahead and citizens need tobereadyforthem.Thejourney towards something great can be difficult and painful but that does not mean that it isn’t worth doing. Difficultly is not a gauge of worthiness.
