Attempted carjacking and kidnapping in Ardmore

Many people feel safe because they live in what is considered a small city. However, it is a myth that small cities have lower crime rates.

AwomaninArdmorecame face to face with a criminal on December 21 while attempting to finish her Christmas shopping. What should have been a joyous event turned to terror for her.

The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she was sitting at a stop sign, waiting on her turn to go when the suspect, Justin Vaughan,openedherpassenger door and jumped in her vehicle. She said Vaughan began attacking her and trying to steal her truck.

She tried to exit the vehicle, but the suspect wouldn’t let her go. She said he pulled her back in and that was when she began fighting for her life.

She said she noticed he was trying to pull something out of his pocket, something she assumed was a weapon of some sort. That was when she really began fighting the suspect.

Vaughan let go of the victim for a second to assumedly use both hands to retrieve what was in his pocket. She then used that split second window of opportunity to jump out of the truck.

As the victim grabbed her keys out of her ignition and jumped out of the truck, two ladies stopped to render aid. She said that he was angry that she pulled the keys out of the ignition, then noticed the police arriving on scene. That was when the suspect attempted to flee the scene.

Even though Vaughan tried to run, the police were able to arrest him. He is currently in the Carter County jail awaiting arraignment.
