4th of July Tradition Still Going Strong

The Oil Mill Hill community held its 37th Annual 4th of July Reunion this past weekend on East Drew Street—affectionatelyknown as “The Hill.” What began over three decades ago as a small gathering of friends and neighbors has grown into a cherished tradition that brings together residents and former Madill natives from across Oklahoma and Texas.

The event was originally organized by a group of Madill natives, including Wade Watson, Charles Hastings, Letha Qualls, Charlie Byars, Lonnie “Q” Qualls and Betty Menifee. These community memberssharedapassionfor celebrating their hometown and fostering connections, a legacy that continues today.

Reunion festivities featured a lively domino tournament, a community barbecue and plenty of classic cookout favorites—including ribs, hot dogs and hamburgers. Participants came from near and far, many returning to Madill for the holiday weekend to reconnectwithfamily,friends and their roots.

Beyond a holiday celebration, the Oil Mill Hill Reunion serves as a testament to the strong sense of community and shared history that defines the area. The event provides auniqueopportunityfor Marshall County residents to come together in friendship and friendly competition.
