In Texas and throughout the country, the number of children dying is growing rapidly. These babies are being left for hours trapped inside a sealed vehicle still strapped into car seats. As the heat rises with every passing minute, it is only a matter of time until only death appears and visits them.
The sad reality is leaving a child in a hot car almost always proves fatal. According to Kids and Car safety, heatstroke is the leading cause of death in vehicles (excluding crashes) for children 14 and younger.
The blast of what if scenarios are running through the minds of so many concerned citizens. What if someone could have seen the child, what if someone could have heard their cries for help?
Hopefully, technology advances in vehicle heat safety come fast for children with irresponsible guardians. Until then, what can be done to help avoid the loss of another child in a hot car? Take a look, stop, listen and pay attention to people with children. Be present and undistracted.
It’s death of the worst kind and it is happening in close proximity. It could be the vehicle parked in a neighbor’s driveway or sitting beside you in a parking lot. Be aware for these small children’s sake. The summer heat is merciless.
The idea of looking in the window of a vehicle can bring forth some sort of negative stigma. Do it anyway. People should encourage themselves to be nosy. They can look into the windows of the vehicles they walk past.
Look for the child that may be in desperate need of help. Stay present in the moment. If a cry is heard go check it out. It could save a life. Everyone needs to come together and help put a stop to this tragedy.
