I hate to sound like a broken record, but here I am again with a warning about FIRE SAFETY prompted by my own attempt to have a controlled burn. Like always, I had connected the water hose and drug it a block from the spigot to the area of my planned burn before I tried to call the Marshall County Sheriff to let them know my husband and I were going to take advantage of the low wind and burn some felled tree limbs and trimmed bushes.
But to my surprise, the dispatch person said they didn't recommend a controlled burn due to dryness of the vegetation. So, I looked up the Drought Monitor at mesonet. org and found out we were under a Burn Ban t hat is to be reassessed on Jan 24,2022.
Also, we've only had % of an inch ofrainin the past60days. With the chances of significant rainfall in the coming week not looking hopeful. So, if you're thinking about a controlled burn make sure you check with the Marshall County Sheriffs office to make sure it's safe to burn.
Marshall County Sheriffs Office phone number is 580-795-2221, push one for the dispatcher or zero for the operator.
STAY SAFE!
