Ingredients
One large Martian head, or cabbage head
1/2 LB spice breakfast sausage (lightly browned)
3 1/2 inch x 1/4 inch x 3 inch cubes sharp cheddar cheese (or any cheese of choice)
1 medium white onion chopped
1 one pound package sliced bacon
1/2 TBS caraway seeds
1/2TBS coarse kosher salt
1/2 TBS coarse ground black pepper
6 round tooth picks
Directions
Wash cabbage head and core out center with a knife creating a cavity. The cavity can be enlarged by carving out with a knife and metal tablespoon (save core end). Fill cavity in Martian
Fill cavity in Martian head with salt, pepper, and caraway seeds (use spoon or brush to coat inside of cavity).
Pack cavity in Martian head with sausage and onions, push cheese sticks in tightly, cap end with saved core end. Use two toothpicks to secure the cap (all ingredients may not fit).
On a flat plate or cookie sheet, weave bacon strips, place head in center of bacon pull and stretch strips up and over sides of head securing to core end with toothpicks until entire head is covered.
Place in smoker at 275-325 degrees for about three hours or until the head is somewhat soft and bacon is cooked. (Head can also be cooked in conventional oven at same temp and time)
To serve, use large knife to quarter and chop head.
