The Fourth of July holiday weekend was a hit. Warm weather and sunshine held out for the most part for all to enjoy family and fireworks to celebrate the freedom of our country.

The area events were met with great enthusiasm and crowds gathered everywhere to witness the fishing derby, turtle races and fireworks. Also, the Golf Cart Regatta was a huge success. The Grand Marshals of the event were our very own Clint and Bonnie Merrick! Six decorated gulf carts took the spot light with only one from Buncombe Creek.

Don’t forget to show up at the Shay Community Center for their monthly pot luck starting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11.  The Buncombe Creek Community Center will be hosting Bingo on Saturday, July 13 starting at 6:30 p.m. for the mini-games with regular Bingo starting at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to bring your favorite finger food.

On Tuesday, July 16, the Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting their monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. and all are encouraged to attend. It will be an ice cream social, so everyone should bring their favorite toppings. That evening, the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. will also be having their monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the fire station.

A reminder that the “Bash for Cash” is fast approaching and they are in great need of donation items for the auction portion of the evening. It will be held on August 15 at the Tanglewood Resort. Please contact the marina store for details at 580-564-2543.

I heard Karen Wootton tripped and broke her knee cap! Please pray for a speedy recovery and the pain minimized. Have a safe week.
