Redskins take on Wampus Cats in a heated battle

The showdown between the Atoka Wampus Cats and the Redskins on September 22 was certainly exciting. A blendofhardworkandagood game plan culminated into a big victory for the Redskins.

The game commenced with the Redskins defending, holding the Wampus Cats at baywhichledtoaturnoveron downs. The Redskins began their offensive play on the 48yard line, when quarterback Reid Patterson kept the ball for a 52-yard touchdown. Following the successful extra point, the score stood at 7-0, Redskins.

The Redskins kept their momentum, stalling the Wampus Cats’ advances until another turnover. With possession of the ball, the Redskins executed an offensive drive, reaching the nine-yard line and securing another touchdown, followed by a successful extra point.

With the score now at 14-0 and only 3:53 remaining in the first quarter, the Redskins continued their defense. Cash Walker’s interception on the 35-yard line gave the Redskins the opportunity to advance to the 39-yard line, where Eli Oliger ran the ball to the five.

Swiftly, the Redskins scored another touchdown and extra point, extending their lead to 21-0 with just 1:16 left in the first quarter.

The Wampus Cats managed to advance to the 22-yard line after the kickoff ending the first quarter.

The second quarter began with the Wampus Cats on attack from their 22-yard line. The Redskins’ defense blocked their advances and forced yet another turnover.

The Redskins went on an offensive drive but were interrupted byaWampusCats’ interception. The Wampus Cats reached the 30-yard line before facing another setback and giving the ball back to the Redskins. Slowly, the Redskins progressed from their 42-yard line to the 25-yard line, only to be pushed back to the 40-yard line,wheretheWampusCats regained possession. The second quarter then concluded, with neither team making significant strides.

The third quarter began with the Wampus Cats kicking off to the Redskins, who started their charge from their 24-yard line. The Wampus Cats managed to take away the ball and scored their first touchdown of the game, with the extra point bringing the score to 27-7 at the 10:58 mark. After the Wampus Cats’ kickoff, the Redskins charged from their 38-yard line to the Wampus Cats’ 36-yard line. With the assistance of Eli Oliger, they reached the 10-yard line and secured another touchdown.

The successful extra point at the 8:12 mark extended their lead to 34-7. The Wampus Cats quickly advanced to the 35-yard line after their kickoff and executed a pass to the goal line, resulting in another touchdown. Their successful extra point brought the score to 34-14 at the 6:45 mark.

After the Wampus Cats’ kickoff, the Redskins pushed forward to the 50-yard line, and a combined effort from Reid Patterson, running 30 yards, and Cash Walker, running 19 yards, brought the ball to the one-yard line, leading to another Redskins touchdown; the extra point made it 41-14 at the 4:08 mark.

TheWampusCatsstarted their drive on the 32-yard line after the kickoff and managed to secure yet another touchdown at the 0:22 mark, narrowing the score to 41-20. The quarter ended with the Redskins reaching the 35yard line but failing to make further progress.

The fourth quarter began with the Redskins in possession, driving forward to the one-yard line where Logan Stevans stormed into the endzone, securing another touchdown. The successful extra point stretched their lead to 48-20 at the 8:06 mark.

The Wampus Cats advanced to the 26-yard line but were once again forced into a turnover by the Redskins defense. The Redskins advanced to the 49-yard line, where Stevans executed a remarkable 52-yard run, resulting in their eighth touchdown of the game and a score of 54-20 at the 2:44 mark.

The Wampus Cats made a valiant attempt at a comeback, reaching the 33-yard line, but time ran out, giving the Redskins their first district win. Lineman Aiden Donell said he is proud of his team for executing the game plan last week and he hopes his team can carry that momentum into this week and not let up.

Kingston will host Coalgate on Sept. 29 for their homecoming game.
