Madill places in Konowa Invitational Tournament

Boys

Madill competed in the Konawa Invitational this past weekend and finished 3rd in the tournament. It was a bittersweet weekend, as the Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season to #2 ranked North Rock Creek but rebounded to win the 3rd Place game over Holdenville.

The Invitational opened on Thursday and the Madill Boys took on Harding Charter Prep in the first round. The Wildcats downed Harding Prep 55-48 behind the one-two punch of Ethan WilkersonandBrylanJames. Wilkerson had a dominating performance with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and eight blocks while James dropped in 17 on the night adding five assists.

Moving on to round two of the tournament on Friday, Madillwouldfacetheirtoughest challenge of the season. The Wildcats squared off against the #2 ranked North Rock Creek Cougars. Madill faced a strong full court press from North Rock Creek that forced turnovers and made it difficult to get into their usual flow. The Cougars tallied 15 steals on the game and held Madill to 43 points on the night. It was a tight game throughout, but North Rock Creek remained unbeaten and handed Madill their first loss of the campaign by the score of 47-43.

After the loss to North Rock Creek, the Wildcats moved on to the 3rd place game and would face the Holdenville Wolverines. Brylan James stepped up big with a 29-point performance and Ethan Wilkerson added 25 of his own in taking down the Wolverines 68-64 on Saturday. Holdenville had three players score in double digits, but the Wildcats prevailed. Madill bounced back from their lone loss and upped their season record to 9-1. They return to league play this week with games against Byng and a trip to Kingston for the rivalry rematch.

Girls

The Lady Wildcats had a good showing in the Kenowa Invitational Tournament over the weekend. They lost in the finals to Wewoka 49-44 to finish 2nd in the tourney.

Madill opened the tournament strong with a dominating victory over the Lady Cheiftans of Seminole, 72-20. Seminole is winless on the season and Madill handled them in impressive fashion. Like the boys’ team, the Lady Wildcats also faced Holdenville in their second game. Madill eked out a narrow 45-44 win to defeat the Lady Wolverines and move on to the finals.

The final game was a tight matchupfeaturingMadillfacing the Wewoka Lady Tigers. Wewoka proved to be too muchforMadillandprevailed with the 49-44 win to take the championship. The Lady Wildcats’ 2nd place finish brought their season record to 6-4 and 2-1 in league play. Madill now gets back into district play this week against Byng and then a road trip to meet the rival Kingston Lady Redskins.
