Madill Cross Country places fourth in Marietta Red River Showdown

The Madill high school Cross Country team traveled to Marietta for the Red River Showdown competition on August 29. The Wildcats placed fourth overall, and Madill Cross County Head coach, Cale Eidson said the proof was in the pudding. “We didn’t come out ready to run, and it showed in the results,” Eidson said.

The top runner for the boys 5K was Miguel Duran, coming in third place, with a time of 16:52. The top 2-mile girl runner was Isabel Sanchez, with the time of 13:20, taking fourth place. Eidson said even though the students ran well, it just was not enough.

”Isabel ran well which was a positive for us” said Eidson. “but as a team for the girls and boys we didn’t compete how we know we’re supposed to.”

Other girl runners included Valeria Calderon 14:19; Joslyn Stumblingbear 15:01; Carol Moreno 15:06; Mercedes Stumblingbear 15:10; Marista Mendez 15:21; Korlee Cunningham 16:05; Camila Hernandez 16:29; Jaslyn Grimaldo 16:31; Fernanda Hernandez 16:34; Nathali Ibarra 16:40; Arianna Espinoza 17:19; Lala Flores 17:33; Yailin Serrano 18:00; Tarah Wiese 18:35; and Marianna Mendez 20:32

The Wildcats will host the Madill Cat Run at the Madill City Lake at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5. Eidson said he is expecting to see a vast improvement during the next meet.

“I expect us to buckle down and get on track. We’re ready for the Madill meeting, looking forward to it being a good one.”
