Lady Wildcats have a good run in playoffs

The Lady Wildcats had a busy three-game run beginning on February 22 in their matchup against #9 Locust Grove.Madillhadahardtime getting much going against Locust Grove in this one. They trailed 28-9 at the half.

Scoring was hard to come by with Locust Grove’s tight defense. Madill was held scoreless in the 3rd quarter, leaving them behind 39-9 heading into the final quarter. The Lady Wildcats managed a few buckets in the 4th, but never chipped into the Locust Grove lead and ultimately fell 50-18 to drop into the consolation bracket.

A quick turnaround had the Lady Wildcats matched up against Dewey on Friday. Madill found themselves down 8-6 to Dewey after the first quarter. Madill picked up the pace to rally to a 16-11 lead heading into the locker room.

A couple of big buckets by Ireland Groeber were key in Madill’s surge into the lead before halftime. Dewey scratched back into it in the 3rd and only trailed by three after three, 25-22. Madill found a way to pull away in the 4th and advance in the consolation round with the 44-31 victory over Dewey.

Saturday brought Madill and Vinita together to face off in an elimination game. This relatively low scoring game went back and forth with both teams struggling at times but finding ways to keep it close throughout.

La’Miya Brown hit some big buckets for Madill in clutch situations all night long, including a late free throw with 2.8 seconds left to break a 31 all tie and put the Lady Wildcats up 32-31. Vinita wasn’t able to get a handle for a last second effort and the Lady Hornets fell to Madill.

The Lady Wildcats will now play in the Area round on Thursday at 6 p.m. in their quest to move on to state.
