The Lady Wildcats came off a two-game winning streak into Friday’s match up against Lone Grove. An evenly matched game for three quarters, until the fourth frame tilted the way of the Lady Longhorns en oute to a 52-32 win over Madill.

On January 26, Lone Grove exacted some revenge on the Lady Cats after Madill beat them back on January 18 in a low-scoring affair. Both teams started slow, but each found momentum with a combination of fast breaks and outside shooting. After an 11-10 first quarter lead, Madill never regained a stronghold on the game. The Lady Wildcats were only down 23-21 at the half, after La’miyah Brown hit a buzzer beater from beyond the arc to cutintoLoneGrove’sleadand keep the game close.

Madillusedthethirdquarter to apply pressure, both at full court and 3/4 court levels. Lone Grove found ways to break the press and maintained their lead throughout the period, however.

The Lady Longhorns led 37-31 as the game began the final quarter. This is where things went downhill for Madill.

It was as if there was a lid on the basket, as they were only able to manage a single point in the entire fourth quarter, leading to Lone Grove scoring in bunches. Long rebounds led to fast break points and their offense remained steady, shutting down the Lady Wildcats to secure the victory.

Madill is now 10-8 on the season, 4-5 in district, and will face Dickson (4-12) on the road before returning home to host Marietta.
