Kingston attends New Year’s Classic Tournament

Boys v Atoka

The Kingston Redskins faced off against the Atoka WampusCatsonJanuary4to begin the New Year’s Classic. The Redskins had something toprovebecausetheWampus Cats beat the Redskins in the firstgameoftheseasonbytwo points after the Redskins led the entire game.

A game the Redskins have grieved over. The second time around,CoachBobbyMcAdoo and the Redskins finished out strong and defeated the 9 and 1, 9 th ranked (3A), Atoka, 84 to 57.

In the first quarter, the intensity was sky high, and both teams were fighting for every rebound and loose ball. Atoka was determined to not let Reed Cason beat them.

The only problem with that idea was that Cason was not buying into that. The Wampus Cats threw everything they had at him. He fought his way to the goal with four buckets.

Hayden Seeney did his best with two nice three pointers to pull the defense out of the lane and off of Cason. Brock Rumer added a three and Sam Walker had two points.

The Wampus Cats were hitting threes and were stay- ing close. The score after one quarter was 19 to 17 advantage Redskins.

Thesecondquarterwasno different as the Cats stayed around Cason’s neck with several bodies. That left the perimeter open and the Redskins filled it up.

Rumer had two threes. Seeney and Hudson Everhardt each had threes. Walker was 2 of 4 from the free throw line. Lander Burkhalter was 1 of 2 from the line. DrewAndersonhadabucket. Cason did get to the line once going 2 of 2. The Redskins led at the half, 38 to 28.

Atoka was determined to shoot their way back into contention. They should have been trying to stop someone on defense. Cason had three field goals, one was a big dunk, and turned it over to the shooters. Rumer again had a three and a two-point field goal. He was getting rough treatment inside but got to the line to go 3 of 4. Seeney and Everhardt each had three pointers.

Walker was good for a bucketandwas1of2fromthe line. Anderson again had a bucket. After three quarters, the Redskins led, 63 to 50.

Determined not to take their foot off the gas, the Redskins scored 21 points in thefourthquarter.Casonhad two more buckets and had a free throw.

Rumer had another three and was 2 of 2 from the line. Anderson had a three pointer. Ewan Weaver had a bucket, Walker again had a bucket and a free throw, Everhardt had a bucket and Blane Henry was 1 of 2 from the line. The Redskins won 84 to 57.

Box score: Rumer lead the way with 22 points, including five three pointers, he was 5 of 6 from the line. Cason was next with 21 points. He had a big dunk, five blocks, and double digit rebounds and was 3 of 4 from the line. Seeney had 12 points, all on three pointers. Walker had 10 points, Everhardt eight, Andersonwithseven,Weaver with two and Henry one.

Boys v Pocola Indians

The number two ranked Pocola Indians steam rolled past the Redskins on Friday, January 5 on their way to the championship game on Saturday. The final score, 64 to 34.

Pocola made their first appearanceintheNewYears Classic. They were added to take the Dale Pirates place after Dale traveled to Illinois to play a tournament.

In the first quarter, Reed Cason had two buckets. Freshman Lander Burkhalter had a three-point bucket. Eli Oliger had two free throws.

The second quarter was much like the first. Cason again with two buckets and a free throw. Freshman Blane Henry had a bucket. Redskins trailed 36 to 19 at the half.

The third quarter was quiet withCasonmaking two buckets. Sam Walker had a bucket.

The Redskins showed some fight in the fourth quarter. Reid Patterson had a nice three pointer. Burkhalter had two buckets. Ewan Weaver had a bucket. However, the fight wasn’t enough to get the win, The Redskins lost, final score 64 to 34.

Box score: Cason had 12, Burkhalter with seven, Walker, Oliger and Henry all with two.

Boys v Broken Bow

The Kingston Redskins and Coach Bobby McAdoo were anxious to get back on track after the January 5 offensive collapse against Pocola. The Redskins bounced back against Broken Bow to take the third-place trophy. The final score was 67 to 53.

In the first quarter, Sam Walker came out ready to play. He was off to perhaps his best game as a Redskin. He had four buckets underneath.

Hudson Everhardt added a three and a two-point field goal. Brock Rumer had a three to start a great game of his own. The score was 16 to 13, advantage Redskins.

The good shooting from the first quarter did not let up in the second. Rumer again showed his long-range accuracywithtwomorethree pointers and got to the line going 2 of 2.

Hayden Seeney found his groove with a three and a two-point goal. After a quite first quarter. Reed Cason got started with three baskets underneath. At the half, the Redskins were leading 35 to 30.

The third quarter had Rumer keeping the fire hot with two more three pointers. Seeney added one, as well. Walker kept banging away inside for two more field goals but could only manage 1 for 3 from the line.

Everhardt got three on a field goal and a free throw. Cason added a bucket. 54 to 45, advantage Redskins going to the fourth.

The balanced scoring held up through the fourth. Walker had four, Seeney had a three, Cason had a bucket and was 2 of 3 from the line. Rumer had another bucket. The Redskins won 67 to 53.

Box Score: Rumer lead the way tonight with 19 points including four three pointers. Next up was Walker with 17. Cason had 12 and Seeny had 11 followed by Everhardt with eight.

Afterwinning2of3games in the tournament it’s on to Idabel on Thursday night. The Redskins named to the All-Tournament team were senior Cason and Brock Rumer. The Redskins won third place.
