Memorial weekend came in with a bang. We had many folks here at the marina lined up to put their boats in the water.

The wind kept many from enjoying the lake as the waves were too high to enjoy being out. The Buncombe Creek Marina did however manage to get the gas pumps operational as well as use of the ramps so folks could get out and enjoy their holiday for the most part.

The golf cart trail down to the lake was busy as many set up their canopies on the beach in Jurassic to sunbathe, Bar-B-Q and swim. The days have definitely turned hot and sultry. I believe Summer is here. Stay cool and drink plenty of water when out in this heat.

I want to mention the Southern Striper Babes will again be heading out in their boats on Lake Texoma to fish for prizes and awards during the 4th annual all ladies fishing tournament. The teams are comprised of women only, with four on a team.

They have guided and nonguided trips and are $50.00 per person. It has grown over the years with 123 teams and 492 lady anglers participating. We wish them all luck. They have also added a youth division this year as well. This year’s meeting place will be at 500 Harbour View Road in Gordonville, Texas.

The Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Department will be holding their 13th Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 11 at the Buncombe Creek Golf Course in Willis, Okla. Tee off will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Refreshments and lunch will be available, so hopefully everyone has signed up and are ready to enjoy a game of golf. There will be monetary prizes given to the first through third place winners of the various categories. This is their main fundraiser for the year, so be sure to get involved.

The Shay Community Center will be hosting their monthly potluck dinner on Thursday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. It is always a nice gathering to eat delicious food and mingle with your neighbors. Come out and see us.

The Texoma Southern Baptist Church wishes to relay their heartfelt thanks to the Buncombe Creek community for all the prayers and help, both physically and financially due to the devastation caused by the March tornado that tore through the area.

Plans for rebuilding are in the works as they are still negotiating with the insurance company before they can begin the demolition and rebuilding. It will be a lengthy process, but they plan on coming back stronger than ever, just like their neighbors. In the meantime, Sunday School, 9:00 a.m. and Worship Service, 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. are still being conducted at the Shay Community Center. They would love for you to join them.
