Madill High School held a ceremony to showcase and recognize a Madill senior on February 3, 2021. Griffon Williams, a football player and wrestler signed his college letter of intent at the Wildcat Fieldhouse.

Williams has been on a roll his senior year. He recently won the heavyweight division of the annual Midwestern Conference wrestling tournament. In December, he was recognized by KXII-TV as an A+ Athlete and presented with a scholarship from Texoma Chevy in January.

Williams signed to play football for Southeastern Oklahoma State University in the fall.

Chad Speer, Madill Head Football Coach said Williams is always learning and adapting.

“It has been a joy to coach Griff,” Speer said. “When I first arrived, he was a player that bought in and joined the challenge to change the culture instantly. He has been a steady force on the offensive line while battling through multiple injuries.”

“He has shown great senior leadership all year,” Speer continued. “He will be missed.”

Speer said he sees a bright future ahead for Williams.

Williams said he is thankful for his opportunities as well as his past in football.

“I am blessed to have this opportunity and look forward to proving myself,” Williams said. “I will be close to home, so I am hoping my friends can come and chill.”

Both of William’s parents are extremely proud and admire his tenacity.

“Griff has worked hard his entire life,” his mom Shannon Williams said. “He puts out great effort in all he does.” Shannon Williams also said that Griffon has quite a bit of family support and he will be carrying on a family tradition by signing on with Southeastern.

Joe Williams, Griffon’s dad, beamed with pride and said the term proud does not begin to describe his emotions.

“I am very honored to have him as a son,” Joe Williams said. “It has been a challenge to raise a Griffon, he has definitely lived up to his name. He is head strong with a wonderful heart.”

Madill High School Principal Jason Ward said Griffon has always been a positive force of nature.

“Griff is continually helping others which is cool to see from an upperclassman,” Ward said.

Coach Josh Sisco said as long as Griffon holds on to his positivity, he will be fine.

“He needs to stay positive and go in knowing he can do this,” Sisco said. “I don’t want him to second guess himself.”
