Joey Cantrell, the business owner of Longshot Premium HardwoodsofTexoma, has built a successful business offering a wide range of local hardwoods and cedar in slab form or dimensional lumber. Located at 5127 Samuel Road in Kingston, Okla., near the Mega-Star Casino and Buncombe Golf Course, Longshot Premium Hardwoods prides itself on selling salvaged local wood.

Cantrell's journey to opening this business began with his other company, JBI Tree Company, which provides tree services in the Texoma areaandbeyond.Throughhis tree removal and trimming services, Cantrell realized the potential of utilizing the 'waste' in the form of logs and large limbs.

He said he felt a deep appreciation for these trees and dislikedseeingthemsplitand burned. Recognizing an opportunity, Cantrell decided to vertically integrate his business by utilizing these discounted raw materials.

He said his motivation for opening this business came fromhisbackgroundinmanufacturing. He said he saw the potential to produce a quality product with consistent stock and quality.

He noted his love for milling logs and witnessing the hidden beauty inside them, as well as the satisfaction of applying finishes to finished products like epoxy dining tables, are some of his favorite aspects of the business.

One of his fondest memories since opening the business was delivering his first dining table. Having been involved in the entire process, from tree removal to the final product, he felt a deep sense of accomplishment.

Seeing the tree standing and then delivering a beautiful epoxy dining table that will be cherished for years to come was a special moment for him.

Cantrell's ties to the community are strong, as he grew up in Kingston and has family residing there. With plans for the future, he said he envisions growth and aims to build a new shop that providesmorespaceforstock, a larger workshop, and a display room and storefront. Cantrell recognizes the growing demand in the area and intends to meet it.
