Tishomingo, OK - As Family Health Center of Southern Oklahoma celebrates 20 years of serving their communities, they are excited to announce the new FHCSOFuturesScholarship with Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma – an opportunity geared toward students who share a passion for community involvement. The organization will provide an annual award of $1,000 to one student from each of four FHCSO service areas: Atoka, Coal,Johnston,andMarshall Counties.

Eligible applicants must attend a high school within FHCSO’s four service areas (Atoka, Coal, Johnston, or Marshall Counties, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and submit a personal essay responding to the provided prompt on community involvement. FHCSO will review applications and essays, choosing those who best exhibit perseverance, growth, and compassion.

In 2002, CEO, Tina Davis, and a team of like-minded peers recognized a profound need for affordable, accessible healthcare in their community. Together, they spent two years researching, fundraising, generating community support, and laying the groundwork for the opening of their first clinic in Tishomingo.

Since 2004, FHCSO has built new facilities, expanded services, upgraded technology, andincreasedhealthcare staff – all while actively participating inthecommunities it serves. The organization is dedicated to individual and community well-being, focusing not only on improving the health of the individual, but on improving the well-being of the entire community.

Applications for the FHCSO Futures Scholarship will be available beginning December 1, 2023, through the Murray State College Scholarship Portal atAllOpportunities-Murray State College Scholarships (academicworks.com). Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and submit a personal essay responding to the provided prompt. The priority application deadline is February 1, 2024. The regular deadline is May 1, 2024. Scholarship recipients will be announced beginning May 1, 2024.

Awards will be applied to the fall and spring semesters following high school graduation – $500 for fall and $500 for spring. FHCSO Futures Scholarshipfundsmaynotbe used for summer or interim courses. Funds will be issued directly to recipients’ student accounts with Murray State College according to their disbursement schedule.
