LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Our family has lived in the Madill City Limits for over 50 years since moving to Marshall County in 1970. At that time and up to the last three to five years, our roads were in pretty good condition. Especially when the City Manager Robert Watts was in office and when the Madill Work Center was in Madill and provided inmates to help with the roads, city park and other community projects, such as building the Fred Stanley Center.

In fact, the roads improved during those times in which there were several roads resurfaced. The current condition of city roads is despicable. I believe there are very few roads in Marshall County that are not in need of improvements.

South First Avenue is in deplorable condition with cracks crossing the road, deep holes in the street pavement. Due to the damage on the road, automobiles can’t avoid a city sewer manhole and it strikes the undercarriage of the vehicles as they cross over it. If the city cannot provide the proper maintenance of roads in our own town, then I would say it’s time major changes were made in the upper personnel of those responsible.

The good condition of roads should be one of the major concerns of city management. Take note, those who are supposed to be looking after the citizens of this city to maintainproperupkeepofourtown, including proper conditions of our roads. If it was still horse and buggy days, we could all understand the wretched conditions of the roads, but that scenario went out decades and decades ago.
