Steven Moreno, a 7th grader at Kingston Middle School is breaking records in track. Moreno just recently smashed the KMS pole vaulting record by quite a bit.

At the track meet on April 12, Moreno pole vaulted nine feet six inches. The prior record was between seven and eight feet.

Coach Jones Jones said he predicts that Moreno will only continue to improve because of his dedication to the sport. According to Jones, Moreno is already reaching heights close to the high school athletes. He said that they pole vault between 13 and 14 feet.

Jones also coached Moreno’s older brother, Joseph, who graduated and joined the Marines. Joseph served three tours in Fallujah.

Jones’s father, Clyde Jones, also coaches Moreno. He was in track in school and pole vaulted 13 feet in high school.
