On Tuesday, we celebrated Agriculture Day at the Capitol!

The event is a longstanding tradition, and I enjoyed visiting with everyone who attended.

We also celebrated Promise Day at the Capitol! Students, faculty and supporters of Oklahoma’s promise came to the Capitol to show their appreciation for the governor and Legislature for their ongoing support. I had several students from Murray State College stop by, and I enjoyed visiting with each of them!

Oklahoma’sPromisescholarship has been around since 1992 and has paid college tuition for over 80,000 students in the state. Currently, about 14,000 college students are benefiting from Oklahoma’s Promise scholarship, allowing more students to have a better chance of reaching their education goals!

This week we finished hearing Senate Bills in House Committee. We passed over 300 Senate Bills, andnowtheyareeligibletobeheard on the House floor.

I had six Senate Bills pass: SB725, SB776, SB775, SB724, SB722 and SB239!

If these bills pass the House floor, they will be sent to the governor. If the governor signs the bill, it will become state law. If the governor vetoes the bill, it does not become state law unless the Legislature overrides the veto. A two-thirds vote is needed in each house to override a veto.

It’s been exciting to watch these bills advance with such broad support, and I am eager for these bills’ final steps before potentially becoming law. I look forward to next week as we will start hearing Senate Bills on the House floor.

The Legislature must adjourn no later than Friday, May 26.
