A local teen won big at two separate livestock shows that occurred over the past few weeks. Reign Scasta is a thirteen-year-old seventh grader at Madill Middle School and the son of Matt and Tabatha Scasta.

This year, Reign showed two steers and won. He showed the first one at the Marshall County Livestock and won grand champion. Then, he showed both at the Oklahoma Youth Expo in Oklahoma City and won the 2021 OYE Grand Champion Market Steer honors with his 2021 Champion Chianina. This earned him the right to be the first of 214 market animals to sell in the 2021 Sale of Champions. Reign’s steer brought $70,000 and was purchased by a consortium led by Express Ranches and included Livestock Nutrition Center, Bank of Western Oklahoma, McAfee and Taft, Greater OKC Chamber and BancFirst.

The OYE expo is an event with over five hundred Market Steers. The kids who participate work hard all year long with their animals in between all their other activities. All of this hard work does not go to waste though, according to Reign’s mom, showing along with being involved in all of his other activities teaches him hard work, responsibility, and dedication.

Reign has been showing animals since he was nine years old. He stated that one of his favorite memories was when Mr. Ward walked over to him in the Grand Drive and selected him Champion and “uncontrollable tears of joy just burst out.”

When he is not taking care of his animals, he said he spends his time playing travel baseball for the Southwest Canes out of Prosper Texas, basketball, football and baseball for the Madill Wildcats.

The teen’s travel coach Shane Wallace said that Reign is a kid with dedication and determination.

“Reign Scasta is the type of kid every Coach wants on his team,” Wallace said. “The dedication he has toward his teammates and his craft on the baseball field evidently applies to all aspects of his life with his Grand Champion success at the OYE.”

His teacher Mrs. Lyons shared her thoughts about saying what a joy he is.

“He is a joy to be around. He fills every room he enters with smiles and laughter,” Lyons said. “He is such a hard worker and will do anything he is asked. If he doesn’t know what to do, he is not afraid to ask. Reign is an exemplary student who excels both in school and in extracurricular activities. He is a fine young man who represents this school, town, and community with class and style.”

Tabatha, his mom, said Reign meets every challenge head-on.

“He is the kid that is never shy, never meets a stranger, and never met a challenge he didn’t want to take on,” Tabatha said. “I always say he is the Will Rogers slash John Wayne of today. I know his dad and I are always amazed at his attitude his work ethic and his love for life.”

Reign said he wanted to thank his parents and brother Cutter for all their support and love along with all of his family and friends that are always there for him.
