Armando Gonzalez

In the halls of Madill High School, one name that stands out is Armando Osiel Gonzalez. At the age of 17, Armando has already left a lasting impression on those around him through his involvement in various sports and activities, as well as his deep appreciation for the peoplewhohaveinspiredand shaped his life.

Armando said his parents, Jesus and Lisa Gonzalez, have played a significant role in his upbringing. They have instilled in him important values such as hard work, humility and the importance of staying organized. His grandparents, Florencio and Margarita Gonzalez, as well as Juan and Maria Lopez, have also contributed to his growth and have showered him with love and kindness. Armando recognizes the immense impact his family has had on him and is grateful for their support.

Having spent 13 years at Madill schools, Armando has been actively involved in a wide range of sports and activities. He has participated in track, cross country, band, jazz band, academic team, speech, Esports, student council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). These endeavors have not only allowed him to explore his interests but have also providedhimwithinvaluable life lessons and experiences.

When reflecting on his favorite memory from school or sports, Armando fondly recalled the time he and his friends went to IHOP after prom at 1 in the morning. This simple but memorable moment represents the camaraderie and joy that he found in the company of his peers, emphasizing the importance of friendship and creating lasting memories.

In the realm of sports, Armando sId he draws inspiration from his teammates. Witnessing their hard work and growth has motivated him to push himself and hold himself accountable. He acknowledged the collective effort and support that comes frombeingpartofateam,and he appreciates the positive impact it has had on his own athletic journey.

In life, Armando finds inspiration from his parents and grandparents. His mother's unwavering love and support, coupled with her emphasis on staying organized, have been instrumental in his personal and academic success. His father has taught him the value of hard work and has instilled in him a sense of humility. Armando's grandmother has shown him the power of love and kindness, inspiring him to spread those qualities to others. Lastly, his grandfather's generosity and hard work have motivated him to strive for excellence and give back to others.

Expressing gratitude to his coaches, Armando extended his appreciation to Coach Mchatton for always being there for him and providing support. He thanked Coach Callison for the fun memories and jokingly promised to return in 10 years to beat him 7-0 in table tennis. To Coach E, he expressed gratitude for instilling the importance of accountability and recognizing his potential, even during times when Armando struggled to see it himself. These coaches have played a significant role in shaping Armando's athletic journey and have left a lasting impact on his life.

Armando also took a moment to thank his parents for their unwavering support and guidance. He expressed gratitude to his mother for prioritizing his well-being and teaching him the importance of taking breaks. To his father, he acknowledged the hard work and sacrifices made for his benefit and emphasizes the immeasurable love he feels from his dad.

Looking ahead to the future, Armando plans to attend college and participate in either the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University marching band. He said he intends to pursue a major in engineering or a medical degree, with a minor in business or economics. While his plans may evolve as he explores various degree options, his drive to make a difference and his desire to learn will remain constant.

As Armando reflected on his journey thus far, he offered words of advice to his younger classmates. He encouraged them to embrace new experiences, ask questions and remain passionate about learning. He emphasizes the significance of planning for the future and not getting consumed by trivial matters that won't hold importance in the long run. Armando also highlights the importance of helping others and forging new friendships, as these connections can shape one's character and experiences.

Armando expressed his gratitude to Ms. F and Mr. Hasty for providing him with the opportunity to participate in band. He acknowledged the doors that this opportunity has opened for him and the valuable lessons he has learned along the way. He also extended his appreciation to Mr. Ward, the high school principal, for his support and availability whenever Armando needed someone to talk to about things.
