OK Counties under Excessive Heat Warning

The summer months are here and with that means extreme heat. Stephens, Carter, Johnston, Love, Marshall and Bryan Counties has been under an Excessive HeatWarning since June 19.

Even though the temperature is only expected to be in the mid 90s, the heat index is what pushed the Weather Service to put the counties under the warning. It is expected for the heat index to reach 115 degrees.

The Weather Service has two types of Excessive Heat categories. The first one is the Excessive Heat Watch.

This means dangerous heat is possible. It is suggested

sure that children, pets and the elderly have a cool place to hide from the heat.

The Excessive HeatWarning, which is what the six counties are under, are a tad more dangerous.

It is issued with dangerous heat is about to happen or is currently happening.

It is suggested that residents avoid heavy activity and direct sunlight. Stay hydrated, and find a cool, indoor place. Also, be sure to check on the elderly, children and pets.

The Excessive Heat Warning may have only extended to June 21, there is a possibility of Oklahoma experiencing many more in the upcoming weeks.

Six Oklahoma counties have been under an Excessive Heat Warning.
