The Oakland Town Council held the monthly council meeting and Oakland Public Works Authority meeting on October 15.

After going over the housekeeping items like approving the minutes from the September meeting and the purchase orders, a representative from JAMM gave a small report about what the organization offers, and October 15, 2019 was declared JAMM Transit Day in the City of Oakland.

JAMM began in 1999 to provide public transportation to Johnston, Atoka, Marshall and Murray Counties. Being funded through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation 5311 grant, JAMM has provided many services to meet the needs of the four counties it serves.

For the year of 2018, JAMM provided over 140,000 passenger trips, including over 22,000 senior citizens and over 20,000 to individuals with disabilities.

Sam Dishmon, the Vice Mayor of Oakland proclaimed JAMM Transit Day because the organization is “a vital community asset which continues to partner with other transit leaders to assist the region in satisfying the future mobility needs of is community.”
