Marshall County 4-H sent 10 youth delegates to the 98th Annual 4-H Round Up July 23-26 in Stillwater on the Oklahoma State University campus. State 4-H Round Up has a steep history that allows club members to learn new things, showcase their talents, and recognize the achievements of their fellow 4-H’ers.

The 4-H ATV Team, consisting of Jared Davis, Cristian Morales, and Cole Stepp placed first in the ATV Safety competition, and Cole Stepp placed 3rd highest individual.

During the Honors Night Assembly, the top three finalists in all of the project areas were introduced, and the state project winners were announced. State Record Book and scholarship winners, Key Club inductees, and National Congress winners were recognized during the Honor Night Assembly and walked away with over $100,000 in scholarships that will help them further their higher education.

During Honor Night, Rio Bonham and Cole Stepp were both recognized as one of the top three finalists in their project areas. Hayden Harper won in the state Sheep Project, and will receive a $1,200 scholarship. Samantha Hunt and Cole Stepp was inducted into the 4-H Key Club. Key Club is an honor only extended to the top 4-H’ers, who possess leadership, loyalty, and a sense of responsibility to the total 4-H program. Oklahoma 4-H offers a variety of scholarships for graduating seniors and 4-H alumni. Rio Bonham received the $2,500 Shaw Scholarship, and Will Shelby received a $1,500 B.A. Pratt Memorial Scholarship.

In addition to contests and awards, Round Up serves as an opportunity to highlight the leadership achievements of 4-H’ers across the state. Kristen Chapa served on the State 4-H Council as a District Representative. Kristen Chapa was also elected to serve as the Oklahoma 4-H State Vice President for 2019-2020.

“We strive to make State 4-H Round Up a positive experience for everyone who attends, and we definitely met that goal this year,” said Sara Randolph, Extension Educator. “Not only did they have a chance to learn new things, and make new friends that will last a lifetime, but also they had an opportunity to experience what OSU has to offer for higher education. We’re always looking for new Cowboys to call OSU home.”
