A local woman is in a jam after allegedly attacking her own mother. On September 23, Marshall County Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Enos for an assault report.

The 74-year-old victim, and suspect’s mother reported that Roxann Offutt, a 59-year-old female from Kingston showed up at her house and started a fight.

The reporting party also stated that Offutt took her purse which contained the keys to her car.

The mother stated that as she and her daughter were wrestling for the purse, Offutt swung the handbag at her mother. The daughter lost her footing and fell.

Once the suspect regained her footing, she began to get physical with her mother again; this time, kicking her in the leg. Eventually, a family member took the victim’s purse from Offutt’s possession and handed it back to her mother.

After the altercation, the victim went to the hospital where the doctors noted a deep bruise on her – evidence that she was possibly hit.

The following day, deputies contacted Offutt to get her side of the story. Of course, the suspect had an entirely different account of what happened than her mother.

According to Offutt, the only thing she agreed on was that she and her mother were embroiled in an altercation. Offutt claimed her 74-year-old mother was the aggressor in the situation and tried to kick the suspect multiple times.

Offutt then stated her mother was going to leave her own house to keep the situation from escalating, but Offutt so nicely offered to go, instead.

That is when she took her mother’s purse and keys, Offutt said.

The interviewing deputy then asked if that was when Offutt swung the purse at her mother, and she fell. Initially, the suspect denied that event ever happen.

However, after a few more questions, Offutt recanted and said, “that she was going to throw the purse into the air and lost her footing which caused her to fall to the ground.”

The deputy then inquired about the bruises on her mother’s leg, and she claimed that she blocked her mother’s kick attempt and that left a bruise on her elderly mother.

Deputies examined Offutt’s leg for marks to back up her claim about her mother kicking her but were unsuccessful at finding any marks or bruises that are synonymous to assault.

An online search shows Offutt facing a felony charge of Aggravated Assault and Battery stemming from this incident.

She is also facing a felony charge of Driving Under the Influence, and three misdemeanor charges for Possession of CDS – Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Speeding. She has one misdemeanor prior of Harboring Runaway Child.
