On April 5, the Marshall County Sheriff and a deputy took part in an interestingincident. On that Sunday evening, the Sheriffs Office received a report about a person driving extremely reckless on Highway 70.

The reporting party said the vehicle was headed to Marshall County from Ardmore.

Sheriff Danny Cryer said the reporting party also informed officers that the vehicle would not be hard to spot.

Notjust because it was driving erratically - it was a fullsized RV that was dragging an electrfical cord behind it.

Deputy Kasey Cox located the vehicle approximately midway between Madill and the county line. C

ox then activated his emergency lights and siren and succeeded it pulling the RV over approximately six miles west of Madill.

The driver, an undisclosed female, exited the vehicle and produced her license to Cox.

However, she apparently had a change of heart because she dashed back into the RV and barricaded herself in by locking all the doors and windows.

The female then pulled a steak knife out and began slashing her own neck.

Cox was able to retain the suspect’s attention long enough for Cryer to arrive on scene and keep her from causing any more harm to herself.

Once Cryer arrived on scene, he began negotiating with the female to get her to exit the vehicle and stop causing herself harm.

After approximately 30 minutes ofnegotiating with the suspect, she dropped the knife.

It took approximately another 45 minutes ofnegotiating with the suspect for Cryer to convince the female to exit the RV. An EMS unit was already on scene and checked out her wounds. The medical staff found four cuts that the suspect inflicted to her neck.

She was treated at AllianceHealth Madill and transferred to another area hospital for a mental evaluation.

Cryer applauded his officers and EMS for acting quickly.

“Thanks to the teamwork of the Sheriffs Office and E.M.S., another life was saved,” Cryer said.

Due to HIPPA laws, the name of the suspect cannot be released at this time.
