Gosh, here we are hitting the end of August with the last big holiday coming up September 7. The Pandemic has caused folks to get out in groves to picnic, enjoy boating and generally play outdoors more, which can be hectic for the locals as it causes more traffic and bustle in the area. Hopefully everyone stays safe and can enjoy their three-day holiday around the lake area.

I hear Kingston Schools will open their doors for on site learning on Monday, August 24. They have procedures in place for disinfecting and keeping everyone safe. Let us hope everything will work out fine so we can get through this school year.

The drawing was held on August 18 for the winner of the Corn Hole Boards and Bags was won by Billy Baker. The raffle raised $934.00 to go toward improvements at Jurassic Park.

Again, I want to thank Bill Johnson and so many others for their involvement in promoting and seeing this raffle to its conclusion. A huge “thank you” to Rick Bell for donating his handmade boards.

The local eateries stay busy most of the time, even with the sultry summer days coming to an end and the kids back in school. Daily life will sometimes seem to have the appearance of a robust economy, although I know many are struggling.

On Sunday, August 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the Randy Tatarevich Band will again be entertaining us with some wonderful country music right here in Buncombe Creek at the Marina parking area. There is a new concrete floor to dance the night away.

Be sure to come on down and join us with snacks to share, your refreshments and lawn chairs. Donations will be greatly appreciated.

The Red River Valley REA made a generous donation on August 13 to the Marshall County and Southern Oklahoma Fire Departments. Their continued support is greatly appreciated.

Also, on Saturday, October 5, the Kingston Pharmacy will be at the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Department to give flu shots from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Be sure to save the date.
