Well, we’ve headed into 2021 with a new president, a COVID vaccine available and unrest for many. I’m praying for a brighter future ahead for our nation and its people.

The BCVFD performed a fantastic job on the prescribed burn that was held in Jurassic Park on January 16, 2021. The fire wasn’t as effective as expected, due to moist ground cover and humidity. Another one is planned in February, weather permitting. It will definitely look much nicer this summer due to the fuel reduction efforts.

The Texoma Southern Baptist Church has cancelled the following activities for January and February: Sunday breakfast snacks, Sunday School, Valentine Banquet, and all Wednesday night activities due to increasing cases of COVID in our immediate area. The church will still be opening their doors for Sunday morning service at 10:30 a.m. and evening service at 6:00 p.m.

We’ve all heard that Tom and Karen Wootton, owners of the Buncombe Creek Marina are retiring after 30 years. The operation will still run smoothly with their kids at the helm. The couple will be greatly missed around the marina, as they are seen most days working various venues. I hear they will still be around and we will see them from time to time. Congratulations to them both and I hope they will enjoy their travels.

Well, Groundhog’s Day is coming up February ,2 2021. Will Punxsutawney see his shadow? Let’s hope not for early spring! Have a safe week!
