BOOM-A-RANG DINER

Okay readers, by now, you know I like the mom and pop diners, with Americana food and an old school malt shop feel. Well, you are in luck because you don’t have to go far to find one.

Right here in Madill Okla. is Boom-A-Rang Diner. With pictures of Elvis Presley and the Beatles adorning the walls to the red topped bar stools at the counter, and the super polite and perky waitstaff, this place screams fun as you enter the door.

Once seated, I had the privilege of speaking with manager Alissa Gillum who expressed that her favorite thing about Boom-A-Rang is the small town feel of the place. Having moved to Madill to run the diner ten months ago, it has been an adventure getting to know the guests that come in to eat.

Great as the décor and staff are, it is ultimately the food that I am here for. To start our food quest, we had the fried mushrooms. Small buttons cut in half and fried just right. It came with a side of ranch dressing for the diners who like dipping.

For our entrees, we had the fried fish - by the way they do an all you can eat fish on Fridays. The fish had a great crispy corn meal crust, served with fries and coleslaw.

Not to be outdone by my lunch mate, I had the Hot Hamburger Plate. Quarter pound patty on grilled Texas toast piled with mashed potatoes and a Roast beef gravy. It was just as juicy and succulent that I had imagined when I ordered it.

To finish off a great meal, we had the fried peach pie al la mode. Warm peach filling surrounded by a crisp flaky crust then topped with vanilla ice cream. The pie is must get when you visit.

Really good food, great service, fun atmosphere. Oh, also, I mentioned it was like a nineteen fifties malt shop, so yes, I had the strawberry milkshake, yummy. Make your way by Boom-a-rang Diner and I will save ya a seat. Until then, here is a home recipe to hold you over.
