The Wildcats lost to the Pauls Valley Panthers on Thursday night, October 15, at the Blake Smiley Stadium with the final score 35 to 13. The Panthers got on the board first, scoring with 1:01 left in the quarter. Head Coach Chad Speer said the loss was a disappointing one.

“Very disappointing in the result of the game,” Speer said. “Our lack of a running game and us being unable to stop Pauls Valley was critical.”

With just 33 seconds off the clock to start the second quarter, Pauls Valley scored again. The Wildcats could not escape the nine penalties that would cost the team 65 yards. Speer said there were some technical errors made by the team.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t execute very well on both sides of the ball, said Speer. “We had some chances to make some plays but didn’t.”

Madill saw the end zone when Junior Kendall Robertson, who had 282 passing yards and 17 rushing yards, scored. The extra point by sophomore Rodrigo Villegas was no good bringing the score to 14 to 6. But the Panthers would answer back with another touch down with the Wildcats going to halftime trailing 21 to 6.

One of the issues was injuries, and Speer said they were crucial to the momentum of the game.

We had some guys get hurt in critical spots,” Speer said. “But our mentality has to be to man up and try to find the best 11 that will do what they are coached to do and go make plays.”

A key player for the Wildcats was Junior Nick Northcutt who had 118 receiving yards and tried to help the Wildcats, but the Panthers could not be stopped in the second half. The Panthers scored two more times in the second half. But Kendall Robertson found freshman Rey Gomez for a Wildcat score.

The Wildcats will prepare to travel to Lone Grove on Friday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. Speer said the team will have to bring their A game to win against Lone Grove since they are still riding the winning wave against Plainview.

“Lone Grove just played a battle against Plainview and won a close game. They are a really good football team that is tough and physical,” said Speer.
