It is hard to pick a winning horse in the paddock. Silo Rebels came in with a nine and two record and ranked 11 in class 2A. Pretty flashy, right? They boasted two starters who were cousins and billed as 6 feet 7inches tall. They had swagger. Lesson number 1: You can’t pick a racehorse while they are in the paddock. On January 9, 2021, the Redskins came in smarting from a big loss tp Broken Bow. They had the will, and Coach Taylor Weibner had the way. The Redskins took this one 68 to 47.

In the first quarter, the Redskins showed early that they would use a swarming pressure defense with everyone helping out on the bigs. A lot of the inside defense was coming from Jesse Rose who loves a challenge. He was giving up several inches to the twin towers.

Meanwhile, Brady Brister was continuing his stellar play as he had in the last few weeks. He zeroed in on the three-pointers as did Dakota Weibner and Jase Hays. Brister had three, Weibner had two and Hays had one. Braden Matchen had the only two-point field goal of the quarter. The Redskins had the Rebels on their heels. The score after one was 20 to 7.

In the second quarter, the Redskins continued their attack from three-point range. – at least Brister did. He had two more. He also added a twopoint field goal as did Matchen and Reid Cason. Jase Hays and Marshall Ludrick did their damage from the free throw line. Hays was 1 of 2, Ludrick 2 of 2. The Redskins took a 35 to 27 lead to the locker room.

If the Rebels had any plans of coming back in this game, it would not happen in this quarter. They managed 11 points while giving up 17 to the Redskins. Hays and Ludrick were good for a three-point goal each. Brister had two field goals. Rose, Weibner and Matchen all added field goals. The Rebels could not cut into the lead. After three quarters, the Redskins lead 52 to 38.

The fourth quarter was a futile effort of putting the Redskins on the free throw line. Before they figured out not to foul Hays, he was 7 of 8. He was not the only one hitting free throws; Ludrick was 2 of 2, and just to show he could, he hit another three. Rose also was 2 of 2. Weibner added a field goal to his total. It was all Redskins in this game. Final score, 68 to 47.

Box score: Brister had 21 points, Hays had 15, Ludrick and Weibner had ten each. Matchen added six and Rose had four. Reid Cason had a field goal. As a team the Redskins were 15 of 22 from the free throw line for 68%.

Congratulations to Brady Brister who made the New Years Classic All Tournament Team.
