The Kingston Redskins took on the Caney Cougars in a last-minute addition to the schedule on Thursday night. In the December 10, 2020 game, both teams played a physical, up tempo game that was to the Redskin’s advantage. The Redskins won 63 to 25.

In first quarter action, the Cougars were dead set on not letting the Redskins get off to a big early lead. In that aspect, they were successful. What they had not planned on was a slow start of their own.

Both defenses were locked in the start. Every loose ball and rebound was contested. Jesse Rose and Brady Brister took care of the scoring — Rose had two and Brister had four, and that was it. They could have helped themselves at the free throw line, however, luck was not on the Redskin’s side. Both Jase Hayes and Marshall Ludrick were each 0 for 2. The score after the first quarter was Caney in the lead 7 to 6.

In the second quarter, it was like a coming out party for the Redskins and everyone wanted in. Dakota Weibner had five points, Tucker Rumer, and Cole Morgan had three, Hayes, and Drew Capps had two and Rose was two of two from the line. The score at the half was 25 to 9.

In the first half Weibner, changed his line up quite a bit from the Madill game. In Thursday’s game, he started Ludrick, Rose, Hayes, Rumer and Morgan. He was using a lot of players and the second half was no different.

The story of the third quarter was Jesse Rose. When the Redskins were fast breaking Rose was the first man out of the break. Four times he got behind the defense and scored layups.

The Cougars had no answer for him. Their big men could not run with him. Jesse always plays with intensity but tonight he showed what it looks like when a big man can run. Everyone wanted in the action and Brister was right there with him. He had a nice three pointer and added a field goal.

Rumer added two field goals of his own. Weibner, Ludrick, Hayes, Capps all had field goals. Braden Matchen was one of two from the line after being fouled hard and hitting the floor. All this added up to a 26 point effort. The lead after the third quarter stood at 51 to 16.

In the fourth quarter, Weibner emptied the bench and everyone played. Morgan had a pretty three pointer. Newcomer Reid Cason got minutes and had two field goals and was three of four from the line for seven points. He also had several block shots.

His teammates were cheering him on for a dunk. But he showed class in a runaway game and laid it in. Price Shore added a nice three pointer. Hayden McKinney added a field goal and the final was 63 to 25.
