Teams across the state are cancelling games due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Such was the case for the teams from Kingston and Caney. Both schools were looking to add someone to their schedule due to the cancelations. The Caney Cougars traveled to the KMAC on December 10, 2020 for what would be the second game of the year for the Lady Redskins. Coach Chad Rumer had his team in fine shape and the ladies took this one 68 to 33.

The Lady Redskins were taller, faster and more athletic than their competition. The stifling full-court press that has become their calling card was hitting on all cylinders. Avri Weeks started them off on a good note. Her rebounds and the long outlet passes to Ryan Herndon were on the money. Weeks had 11 and Herndon had four points. Emi O’Steen and Raegan Davis both had buckets. The score after the first quarter was 19 to 4.

Second quarter was more of the same. Weeks added eight more and Herndon was right behind her with seven points including one three-point goal. Kiara Price had a nice three pointer ofher own. Ethel Stewart got to the line and made them pay — she was 2 of 2. The score at the half was 39 to 15.

The second quarter was in Kingston’s favor, but not without a mishap though. Kaya Weibner went down on the court and had to be helped off. She was unable to put weight her knee. This was the same knee she had operated on last year causing her to miss the entire season. Weibner and Weeks are both playing without braces and both had looked “good to go.” At this point, the outcome or prognosis of her situation is unknown.

In the third quarter, Coach Rumer went to his bench early and often. Kamry Bohannon had five points, Weeks had four and O’Steen had two. Stewart had two and Britt O’Steen had a field goal. After the third quarter, the score stood at 54 to 26.

In fourth quarter action, after Weeks scored two buckets, she was done for the night. Stewart subbed in and had a field goal and two free throws for four points. Herndon, Bohannon and Lanie French all added a field goal. The final score was 68 to 33.
