The Wildcats traveled to Lone Grove to play the Longhorns on Friday, October 23. The Wildcats were hit with Lone Grove’s toughness when the Longhorns scored with only 37 seconds off the clock in the first quarter. Madill head coach Chad Speer said their season has not been optimal but has faced reality.

“It’s definitely not where we wanted to be at this point in the season, but we are where we are,” Speer said.

Madill allowed the Longhorns to score again with 3:07 left in the first quarter, with the extra point being no good, the score was 13 to 0.

With approximately two and a half minutes into the second quarter, the Wildcats had a good run by Sophomore RJ Morris, who had 68 total yards for the night. This allowed Junior Kendall Robertson to score for the Wildcats. With the extra point being no good, the score was 13 to 6. The Wildcats were not penalty free in the first half, and Speer said the loss was inevitable with the mistakes that were made.

“We did some good things Friday night on both sides of the ball,” said Speer. “You can’t make the amount of mistakes we made and expect to beat a good football team.”

Lone Grove made the distance between Madill and the lead even larger, the Longhorns scored two more times before halftime, leading 27 to 6.

The second half was no easier for the Wildcats with the Longhorns scoring three more times in the third quarter. Speer said even though they have multiple players on the sidelines due to injury and some being quarantined, they still need to play their best.

“We have guys banged up, out due to injury, or out due to quarantine but that's the hand we were dealt so we have to deal with it and continue to try to get better,” he said.

It may have been a hard loss, but Madill was able to get on the board. Each team scored in the fourth quarter. Junior Kendall Robertson, who had 135 passing yards and 24 carries for 76 yards, ran in to the end zone. The final score was 53 to 13.

Friday, October 30, is the Marshall County super bowl, with Madill hosting Kingston. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. Speer said the game will be a challenge, but the rivalry should breathe some new energy into the Wildcats.

“Kingston is obviously a tremendous football team and a huge challenge for us but it's a rivalry for a reason,” said Speer. “If our guys can't get up for this game somethings wrong. We did have some freshman on the roster Friday night and will continue moving forward. It'll give those guys an opportunity to get better and for us to see them. I think they all played at something Friday night. If they can help us win, they will play.”
