The Madill Wildcats hosted the Durant Lions on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Blake Smiley Stadium, where military appreciation night was held as well.
The Lions came to play as they put 14 points on the scoreboard, leaving the Wildcats scoreless in the first quarter. Madill Football Coach Chad Speer said the players need more focus.
“The players are looking for someone else to make a play instead of doing it themselves. We need to focus on doing our job,” said Speer. “We were definitely better from last week to this week, but we aren't where we need to be.”
The second quarter brought little relief to the Wildcats, with Durant scoring with only six seconds off the clock. With 10:16 left in the quarter, Stephen Sisco scored for the Wildcats. Sisco had five receptions for 46 yards. The Lions would score again, leaving the score 28 to 7 at halftime.
The third quarter was a battle for the Wildcats, allowing the Lions to score two more times. Speer said they were forced to make adjustments throughout the game.
“We obviously had issues stopping the dive. Defensively we made some good adjustments,” said Speer.
The fourth quarter was scoreless for the Lions. Holden McGahey scored, bringing the final score to 42 to 14. McGahey had seven rushes for 99 yards.
Madill will travel to Marietta to play the Indians (0-1) in the first District game on Friday, September 11.
