The Lady Redskins and coach Chad Rumer took home the Consolation Trophy Saturday by defeating the girls from Marlow on January 9, 2021. Final score of the game was 61 to 41.
The Lady Redskins had their best first quarter of the season that night. As defenses continue to pack the lane in defense of Avri Weeks, her teammates found themselves in position to score. And that Is exactly what they did.
Ryan Herndon had perhaps her best game as a Lady Redskin. She came ready to fire away. Once on her mark for deep three pointers from the base line, she drilled three of them before Marlow could react. In doing this, she pulled the defense out of the lane and Weeks began to hit her shot from the low post.
She was also fouled and was 2 of 2 from the free throw line. Off a rebound and a long outlet pass to Herndon, she turned it into an easy layup. Kamry Bohannon added a couple of field goals and Raegan Davis hit a pretty three-pointer. By the time the dust had settled, the Lady Redskins were setting on a 24 to 12 lead.
Weeks and Herndon were not finished with the long outlet pass combination. Twice more Herndon was able to break out to receive those long passes from Weeks and turn them into easy layups. She also added another three-pointer. Weeks had two more goals. At the half, the score was now 35 to 27.
Rumer must have told the girls to continue what they were doing at intermission, because the Lady Redskins continued the beat down. Weeks continued to get away for layups on the other end. She had three more field goals, and a three-pointer. Weeks had two field goals and a free throw. Bohannon also added a field goal and two free throws. At the break, the Lady Redskins held a 50 to 31 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, Herndon had another three and a two-point field goal. Bohannon added another field goal to her total before Rumer turned it over to the second string. Lanie French had a nice three and Chloe Cargal had a bucket. The Lady Redskins cruised on to victory, 61 to 41.
Box score: Herndon lead the team with 29 points including five three-pointers, Weeks followed with 15 points and countless rebounds and assists. Bohannon made it into double figures with 10 points and was a perfect 2 of 2 from the line. Davis and French each had three points. Cargal had two points.
One cannot talk about the Lady Redskins without talking defense, especially in the third quarter. While adding 15 points to their total, they held Marlow to only 4 points. They rode this cushion to a twenty point victory.
