The Kingston Lady Redskins Fastpitch Softball played five games in a span of two days on October 1 and October 2. The Lady Redskins won three, but lost two; making them the regional runner-up. The Lady Redskins began the two-day regional tournament facing Newkirk.
The game was a battle of the bats. Kingston had ten hits and Newkirk collected 11 for the entire game. Fortunately, Kingston wanted the win just a tad bit more than Newkirk; pulling out an 11-7 win. In the second inning, senior Kayte Auld, #12 scored a run.
The fourth inning was a big one, with eight runs being divided between sophomore Lanie French, #4, senior Madi Jones, #17, freshman Jayda Foster, #7, and senior Ryan Herndon, #20.
The second game of the regionals began the threeday battle between Kingston and Sulphur. Unfortunately, Sulphur came out of the gate with a 5-1 win. Senior Blakelyn Barber, #15 went six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. However, she struck out two and only walked one.
The third game was against Prague. Kingston started strong early in the game by scoring a run in the second inning. Sophomore Lanie French, # 4 took one of the two counted runs for the fourth inning with a single on the first pitch at bat.
Barber lasted seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out three and only walking one. Jones and Barber each had two hits in the game.
The fourth game of the regionals was also against Sulphur. Luckily, the Lady Redskins got the lead early. They had five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Senior Kayte Auld, #12, doubled on a 2.2 count and scored three runs.
The Lady Redskins then scored a run in the top of the fifth, but then Davis answered when she hit a solo homerun. Kingston racked up five runs in the fourth inning.
Senior Emi O’Steen, #10, singled on a 0-2 count, scoring a run, Davis scored a run with a walk, junior Bri Harkins, #42, doubled on the first pitch, scoring two runs, and senior Ryan Herndon, #20 scored a run by grounding out.
Barber lasted seven innings, only allowing 13 hits and eight runs; walking one batter. Davis had a homerun in the fifth inning. Kingston had a total of 12 hits for the game. Harkins, Davis, Barber and O’Steen each collected multiple hits.
Harkins took the lead with three hits in four at bats. Kingston ended the game with a victory of Sulphur, 11-8.
The Lady Redskins’ hopes to be the regional winners ended when they faced Sulphur High School for a third time. Kingston lost the lead early in the game when Sulphur scored three singles and a double in the first inning. Senior Blakelyn Barber, #15 surrendered 13 runs on 11 hits over four and two-thirds innings.
Senior Madi Jones, #17 was credited for a home run in the third inning. Junior Raegan Davis, #1, freshman Jayda Foster, #7, and Jones each garnered a hit during the game. Unfortunately, it was not enough to bring the Lady Redskins to a victory. They lost to Sulphur 13-3.
