This week’s senior spotlight is Jorge Martinez of Madill, Okla. His proud family consists of his parents Sandra Guerrero and Jorge Martinez, along with his two sisters Lesly Guerrero and Dulce Martinez. He has attended Madill public schools all his life and has participated in football and track throughout his four years of high school.

Martinez wears his number fifty-five jersey with pride for the Madill Wildcats. He plays multiple positions consisting of left guard on offense and nose guard for defense. During his four years of football, he said his biggest challenge was when he got injured his junior year. However, he said that a previous fellow Madill Wildcat by the name of Griffon Williams was his biggest inspiration.

“He really helped out during all my sporting events and always told me not to give up on anything I do,” Martinez said.

Shotput has been another one of his favorite sports he has participated in during his four years of high school. He has won several medals over the years, but he said his greatest accomplishment was when he went from fourth place to first place. His favorite memory, however, is when he got second place last year in regionals for shotput. He said he appreciates all the support and encouragement he has received from the coaches. “Thank you for pushing me to the be the best I can and thank you for believing in myself when I didn’t,” Martinez said.

Jorge said both of his parents are his biggest fans and support him in life, but he feels his dad has inspired him in life, as well. Pushing him to be the best person in life and in everything he does.

“I love both of you so much and thank you for believing in me and being there for me when I needed it.”

After high school, Martinez plans on attending college and would like to study to be a pediatrician. In an effort to pass down advise, he said, “if you have your mind set on something, don’t give up on it and push through whatever obstacles are in your way!”
