Diana Hernandez is a senior at the Madill High School. She is involved in soccer, marching band, and concert band. She is one of the two drum majors for the band. Originally, she is from Nicaragua in central America, but moved here when she was about six years old.

She has attended Madill since the first grade. She said the move was a huge change in her life, but she is so glad to have attended the rest of her school years at Madill Public Schools. Hernandez is the daughter of Augusto and Urania Hernandez and has two younger sisters.

Last year, the Madill girls’ soccer team came so close to going to the playoffs. She has also been in many honor bands. Last year, the band went to state on both concert and marching and went on their way to win sweepstakes for the first time in a while.

Hernandez noted that she was able to accomplish certain things because of her family’s support.

“I would like to just say thank you to my parents for being the ones who always believed in me. As a child of immigrants, I can relate to many that strive to make their parents proud,” Hernandez said. “Our parents came to this beautiful country so we can accomplish our dreams and theirs. I will continue to do so, and I pray to God that they get to be with me at not just my graduation in May, but during many other lifetime achievements.”

She also beamed with pride when she discussed her extracurricular activities and friends.

“I am so proud to be part of these activities and I am glad I get to do them with my classmates. We have accomplished so much,” she said. “My favorite high school memory would probably be when we got to go to state for both marching and concert. We were always so close and finally, we achieved it. Something we worked so hard for and the fact that it finally happened made me very happy.”

Hernandez advises her younger underclassmen to live for each moment.

“I’d like to say, just do the things that you enjoy and makes you happy. High school really does fly by, and I am so glad I will be able to look back at the activities and school life that I enjoyed and loved so much!”

She shared her admiration for the school administration and said they left a huge impact on her life.

“I will forever be grateful for my teachers, directors, and coaches. You all have impacted my life in a positive way,” Hernandez said. “Always making me want to better myself and helping me believe that I can do whatever I put my heart into. I have no doubt that Madill has the best administration and community who comes together when things are good or bad. It doesn’t matter as long as we have the wildcat spirit!”
