Coby Sandefur is a senior wrestler at Madill High School. His extremely proud parents are Charles and Anita Sandefur. He has attended Madill public schools since kindergarten. Over the years, he has participated in wrestling and football. He said his biggest challenge has been the injuries he has endured.

He said he is always pushing to better himself.

“Something or someone has always inspired me in life, but now in sports, it has got to be the fact that you’re constantly pushing yourself to be better as well as constantly breaking down your body to the point where you think you can’t continue going on,” Sandefur said. “Then, pushing yourself past that point to become better, stronger, and faster. The fact that sports is constantly challenging your mental state making you tougher, not only physically but mentally as well.”

He said out of all his memories, one stands out the most.

“My all-time favorite memory during high school sports was from my freshman year. I won the wrestling tournament in Arkansas,” Sandefure proclaimed proudly. “Hearing the crowd cheer for me and the pride I felt holding up that trophy is something I will never forget.”

Sandefur said there have been multiple people that have inspired him in his life, but his parents and coaches were the ones he wanted to give thanks to.

“My parents have always been there for me during the hard times and have always been there to congratulate during the good times. I just want them to know that I appreciate them for always being there and always supporting me,” Sandefur said. “I’d like to thank my coaches too for pushing me passed my limits to help me become better, as well as my teammates who were like brothers to me and although we had our differences, I know you guys always had my back.”

After high school, Sandefur said he plans on joining the military. He offered some sound advice to the underclassmen.

“Do your best in everything you do,” he said. “Never quit something you start because you may not be good now but if you put in a hundred percent effort into it, eventually your hard work will start to pay off.”
