My name is Gayla Freeman. IamthecurrentKeeper oftheKeyswhoschedulesthe Auxiliary Building and I am alsotheReporterwhosendsa weekly newsletter to the Madill Record for publication.
I was born in Arkansas City, Kans. the second child of seven to Lawrence I and Virginia Lou Ashcraft Mills. After graduating from High School, I headed to California where I met and married my husband of 54 years.
We took turns going to college and taking care of our boys. But we finally accomplished our goals and landed good jobs with the Veterans Administration. They moved us around about every 15 months but each move was a promotion for him and me being a nurse, I always had a job.
We finally landed in Guthrie, Okla. when our boys reached junior high school. We stayed there for 31 years untilouryoungestsonpassed away and we decided to move closer to our older son who lives in Frisco, Texas.
We wanted to be close but not too close so we settled on Kingston. Living after the loss of our son was difficult. I couldn’t quit crying. So, to heal my soul I asked Leon of Leon’s Greenhouse if I could come and pull weeds.
He gladly accommodated my request and slowly over the next couple of years, I finally healed my heart.I now have taken up helping families in hospice. And I have a potholder ministry making potholders infused with prayers.
My husband and I love where we live. We have wonderful friends and we’ve been able to see our two grandchildren grow up. We still have the love of our late son’s widow.
We have a wonderful son and daughter-in-law who look after us. We are truly blessed.
The TFD Auxiliary meets the 3rd Monday at 1:30 p.m. with a social gathering preceding the meeting at 1 p.m. The next meeting will occur on June 19, 2023.
The Texoma Fire District Board of Directors meets the first Thursday of the Month at the Training/Community Center located at 10978 Parkview at 6:30 p.m.
The next meeting will be June 1, 2023. All are welcome to attend.
The Exercise/Stretching classes are on Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. Cards/ Games are on the second and fourth Tuesday at 12:40 p.m. Auxiliary members are welcome to join in the fun.
For anybody interested in renting the Texoma Community Building, Contact Gayla Freeman at 580-565-4043. She will get right back with you. The cost is $75 per day and they must be a member of the Texoma Fire District to rent the building.
The Lighthouse Methodist Church located at 4923 Alberta Creek Road provides an evening meal from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Lighthouse Kids Program for grade school children consisting of Bible stories, crafts and games is held each Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. prior to the meal.
