“Spectacular” is a word used to describe the impressive yard of Mario and Priscilla Flores at 110 North Sixth Avenue and is being honored by the Madill Rose Garden Club as Yard of the Month for September. Mario and Priscilla’s yard is a delightful array of picturesque color, charm, warmth, and texture.

The landscape against the house is edged with a border of green trim, small, white stones and brick and contains and eye-catching collection of multicolored periwinkles and impatiens, rose bushes, and fringe flowers. Plantain lilies and spotted nettle are used for ground cover.

Attractively sprinkled among the colorful flowers are numerous small ornate Mexican pots, such as turtles and fish filled with Firecracker plants, Agave succulent, snowball succulent, as well as a small, turquoise watering can and other interesting objects.

Placed here and there around the yard are numerous large, blue flowerpots of Hibiscus and Mandevilla plants. A charming white mailbox is adorned with red periwinkle. All of which surrounds an inviting porch area that is accented with Mexican hanging pots of Geraniums, a fern in a metal stand, and two large, vivid blue yard chairs that provide tranquility and a pleasant place for Mario and Priscilla to relax and enjoy their beautiful yard.

Priscilla indicated that soon the yard will be transformed when she changes out summer flowers and plants for a fall look. We anticipate it to be another “spectacular” yard. Drive be and prepare to be “bedazzled.”
