Marshall County Law Enforcement served up laughs and smiles on November 9, 2021, while raising money for Shop with a Cop.

Every year before Christmas, the Marshall County law enforcement agents work with the local DHS by receiving a list of names of those children placed in foster care within the county. From there, the local law enforcement agencies work together in volunteering their time to take an average of twenty-five to thirty kids shopping for the Shop with a Cop Program. Every year, they try and raise around four thousand dollars.

For some, the only contact the children have had with law enforcement is when a parent or other family member is arrested. This program gives the children an opportunity to see law enforcement officers in a different light. It not only allows the child to receive a much-deserved shopping spree, but it also allows the officer to spend quality time with the children in the community to which they proudly serve.

LaGrandes Restaurant partnered up, for the second year in a row, with the Madill PD on to help raise money for the Shop with a Cop event in December. The officers waited tables from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., as well as 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All the tips and donations received will go to help the program.

Madill Police Officer Donny Raley said they are thankful for the support of the LaGrandes owners.

“Rodney and Misty Forbis go above and beyond to support us and this program. They hosted us last year and it was a huge success, so they couldn’t wait to do it again this year,” Raley said. “Their waitstaff give up their tips to help us raise money and that is a huge thing for them to do.”

“We offered to not interfere with their tips and just take donations, but the wait staff would not hear of it and insisted the tips be a part of the fundraiser,” Raley continued. “The entire staff are fun and welcome us with open arms, all in the name of giving kids something to smile about for Christmas.”
