On Monday Oct 21, 2020, the Madill Public Schools Board held a meeting to discuss pertinent items that will change due to the pandemic. To begin the meeting, MPS Superintendent Larry Case and the board voiced how proud they were of the students and staff during the pandemic.

The board also noted how the regular school conference meetings are stressful at this pivotal moment with the pandemic.

Another agenda item discussed by the board was banning any and all field trips for the time being for the Early Childhood Center; at least till the pandemic is over. That did not dissuade the board from planning a good time for the students with a student pumpkin patch which scheduled for October 23. Also important for the health of the student is flu shots on October 20 at the school. Case discussed how important the teachers, parents and students continue to remain in contact while the pressures of the pandemic make face to face conversation rather difficult.

Other agenda items discussed by the board were possible ideas for safer indoor sports, new training programs and fall break. Among the changes made after the agenda was approved was the senior night Madill football game which was moved to October 15 and the amazing cross-country team making their way to regionals.

Just before the topics were discussed, Bink Stafford, the School Athletic Director mentioned that Basketball and Wrestling are coming up fast. To test the safety, they mentioned a junior high scrimmage with Durant to see how the games will fair with parents, students and coaches.

Other agenda items that were discussed were:

• Fiscal year 2020-2021 budget passed

• Board elections decision passed

• School board officials who wished to resign were approved

• Temporary contracts for support staff were approved

• Extra duty contracts for virtual curriculum and planning were approved

• School calendar for events was approved

• The school’s new crisis prevention and emergency response plan were approved.
