Local small-business owners love what they do and play an important role in supporting their local communities. They are the community member’s friends and neighbors; they know everybody, everybody knows them.

These small, owned businesses have a vested interest in knowing how to serve the community. The owners treasure the relationships they have with all their customers and because of this, guests can expect to get friendly, personable customer service.

The small-business owners tend to pick the items and products they sell based on the customers’ wants and needs. They carry an array of unique products known and liked by those in the area.

By shopping local, community members are making a personal investment in their community because the money that is spent locally is kept in the community. Usually, the locally owned business often purchases from other local businesses, service providers, and farms. So, whether it is unwittingly or not, when a customer shops local, they are individually stimulating the local economy by helping shape the community’s unique character and personality.

To some, this might seem obvious, but these small businesses create jobs within the local community. Sometimes, these jobs even provide better wages and benefits than the large retailers. Rather than commuting, these employees can work locally and in a full circle kind of way, provide opportunities for these workers to shop at other local small businesses.

Marshall County will be having their Small Business Saturday on November 26 and November 27, 2021, at the OSU extension office halfway between Madill and Kingston. So, be sure to mark those calendars to see the unique gifts that will be available.

There will be many things available from arts and craft items, to clothing and jewelry, to holiday décor and car Scentsy. Local vendors are setting up Wednesday before Thanksgiving. They will open Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
