Even though there are multiple ongoing investigations at any law enforcement agency, Marshall County was plagued with two new investigations over the weekend.
The Madill Police Department is currently investigating a body that was recovered from the Madill City Lake.
On July 2, officers recovered the body of a female who was approximately 75 years in age.
Her body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an official autopsy. They will know more once the results come back.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office got a new case on July 6 with the reports of a man who was hospitalized after being brutally beaten at Lake Texoma.
Reports show that Mark Merchant and his wife Brenda were enjoying fireworks and the husband wandered over to another group to talk.
Allegedly, Mark was asked to leave because he had been drinking quite a bit.
Sometime between the Merchants being asked to leave and 5:00 a.m. the next morning, Mark was brutally beaten.
Marshall County Sheriff Danny Cryer said the incident was not reported till 10 hours after it occurred, which makes investigating it difficult.
Mark, a 63-year-old male, is recovcering from a brain bleed, a broken jaw, and eye socket and several broken bones in his face.
